Breast feeding

Breast feeding is a rewarding and enjoyable experience for both mother and baby. Hibiscus Private Hospital Maternity Unit promotes breast feeding and bonding between mother and baby by allowing your baby to stay in your room with you. Formula feeding is only done when breast feeding is contraindicated for medical reasons, or when a mother chooses not to breast feed.

It is, however, important to understand that babies may need a “top-up” or complementary feed - if this has to be done, it is with a teaspoon or a syringe and not a teat.

When should you contact your doctor or come into hospital?

A sign of vaginal bleeding.
Decreased or excessive foetal movements.
A sign of a “show” mucous discharge.
When your water breaks.
Regular contractions and lower backache.

We look forward to sharing this special moment with you!
