Doctors’ event adds to local knowledge of retroviral disease
| Zizi’s Restaurant in Umtentweni was the venue for a Continuing Medical Education (CME) doctors’ gathering last Wednesday. The event, which was co-sponsored by Hibiscus Private Hospital in Port Shepstone and Ampath Laboratories was attended by over 25 regional doctors in addition to nursing staff. Dr. Vishal Maharaj, a specialist physician, presented the talk on 'viral hepatitis in the setting of retroviral disease' with additional information provided by Ampath Pathologist Dr Norman Miller. Locally, Ampath has outlets in Margate, Port Shepstone and Kokstad and provides laboratory services to many in the local medical fraternity. In addition to earning CPD points for attending the medical talk, it was an opportunity for the doctors to meet the Port Shepstone-based Specialist Physician Dr. Maharaj who is relatively new to the South Coast. His rooms are at the Hibiscus Medical Centre next to the Hibiscus Private Hospital. Hibiscus Private Hospital Executive Managing Director Richard Mills was very happy with the success of the evening and sees further CME events incorporating a range of medical disciplines happening this year. “These events are an ideal way of sharing specialist knowledge with the local medical fraternity and encouraging discussion on difficult topics, and offer a tangible benefit to the south coast community,” says Richard Mills. |
